My daughter only has 6 teeth, 2 bottom and 4 top. She sometimes has a hard time chewing. What are some good finger snack foods for this? Open to any eating tips.
By the time my kids were 1, they were eating everything that my husband and I were eating, just cut up smaller. Lack of teeth isn’t a big deal. In fact, some kids don’t have ANY teeth until they’re more than a year old, and it doesn’t get in the way of them eating at all. Those gums are just fine at mashing stuff up.
Also, the more tastes you introduce them to early, the less picky they’ll be later. And there’s nothing more unpleasant than sharing a meal with a kid who won’t eat anything except, say, chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese and ranch dressing. (We know one of those…)
Ripe pears, mangos, avocados, bananas.
Grated apples. Cut strawberries.
Butternut or acorn squash, diced.
All kinds of pastas.
All kinds of crackers.
Cheerios or Kix
Vanilla wafers or Fig Newtons
String cheese, or slices or cubes of regular cheese.
Any vegetables, cooked well and cut up.
Beans, any kind, but mine liked chickpeas a lot
It sounds gross, but you can buy cooked, canned chicken. It comes in a can just like tuna. The nice thing about it is that it’s softer and juicier than most meats you might be fixing for yourself.
Fish. My kids loved tilapia and the occasional piece of salmon. Or fish sticks.
French fries, tater tots, etc.
Seriously, it’s a good idea to try out lots of stuff. My kids love fried rice, curry, enchiladas…spicy stuff, sweet and sour stuff…it’s nice, because we can take them anywhere and not worry about whether or not there will be something they can eat.
mmmm. part 1 of 5.

What are some easy to make finger foods for a 9 month old? SHe has 6 teeth and is pretty good at chewing small peices of stuff. I usually make her a cheese and turkey sandwhich but I am sure she would l ike some other stuff. Any ideas?
Little squares of toast with butter or all-fruit jam, cooked peas & carrots, Cheerios, banana slices, cooked sticky rice balls, cut-up cooked ravioli with parmesan cheese & butter sauce, scrambled eggs, soft breadsticks, stir-fried tofu chunks…
Those are some of the things I remember my son enjoyed at that age. The best thing you can do is try to introduce a LOT of different flavors, textures, etc, so she doesn’t become a picky eater. My son was eating spicy Indian food, sushi (Calif rolls…no raw fish) and teriyaki before age 1, and now that he’s 5 he’ll eat pretty much ANYTHING. By age 1 she should be eating pretty much anything you eat, with the exception of honey (botulism risk) and the obvious choking hazards (grapes, hot dogs, raw carrots, raisins, peanut butter, etc). And stay away from the pre-packaged garbage that is marketed to kids (pre-made meals, etc). They are full of sodium, sugar, preservatives, etc. Feed her REAL food!
Good luck! There are a lot of library books you could get too that have lots of different ideas for kids’ food at different ages.
im planning a party and i want to serve finger foods im planning to invite like 9 people what are the best things i can serve. im on a budget under 40$ THANXX!!!
You can find all of these in the frozen foods section of you grocery store. Just throw them in the oven and you’re good to go!
Pizza Rolls
Cheese filled pretzel bites
Bagel Bites
Macaroni and cheese bites (mac and cheese in a breaded crust – don’t knock it ’til you try it – they’re surprisingly good! plus kids will love them)
Popcorn chicken
Mozzarella sticks
If you want to make something, pigs in a blanket are always a big hit! Just a roll of crescents and lil’ smokies hot dogs. Easy and delicious!

My son is 8mo old and just started (Earth’s Best) 3rd foods. He is currently sitting up on his own, but not crawling yet. I watch him when he eats and I’m not sure if he is really mashing food with his gums (since I don’t really know what I’m looking for). How do I know if he is ready for finger foods? If he is do you have any suggestions for good organic first finger foods? When is it safe to start something like the Gerber puffs and is there an organic version of those?
All babies are different and there is no set-in-stone age for when to introduce finger foods. The average age for introducing baby finger food is between 7 and 8 months of age.
Your baby should be able to "chew" using his or her gums to mash foods. Your baby should also have a pretty good pincher grasp. The pincher grasp is the the ability to grab and hold objects between the thumb and the fore finger. If your baby has the fine motor skill to manuver and grab and hold onto foods with the pincher grasp, then your baby is may be ready for finger foods.
Babies don’t get the teeth they actually chew with (molars) until anytime between 13-24 months of age!
Ideal Finger foods are those foods that baby can easily pick up and easily mash between his gums. Finger foods help baby begin to learn to self-feed. Good Baby Finger Foods are any foods that baby has already had – and anything that you can make into small soft and mashable bits!
Gerber Puffs – have you read the ingredients? Take a peek and you’ll see lots of sugars and other ingredients baby doesn’t need!
Organic finger foods? Just buy Organic fruits & veggies, steam them until nice and soft & serve. Banana, pears, avocado are some good fruits that will be soft enough to use as finger foods, buy them Organic and VIOLA! you have Organic finger foods!
