My sister in law’s long time boyfriend is lactose intolerant. I’d like to have some side dishes that everyone can eat, but I don’t want him to have to make me a list! So what are some good Thanksgiving recipes for him?

Do you know any other vegetarian dishes that have feta in them?

I made a delicious lentil salad (of my own invention) with puy lentils, crumbled feta, pine nuts, oregano, lemon juice and black pepper.

-Orange Chicken on rice
- Salad
- Shrimp
- Lava Cake

One of our dishes is rasberry sorbet. We are serving it in a cup thats made of just ice. (Its going to melt quickly but there is only a small amount of sorbet). We are looking for creative ideas like that to present the dishes listed.

Sorbet: bake toile cookies, form over a custard cup. Brush inside with apricot jam when cool. Fill with sorbet and serve.

Ornge chicken: saute orange slices in butter and a little brown sugar. Arrange over chicken on rice. (Prepare the rice with chicken stock and orange juice instead of water.)

Salad: Layer salad on a platter instead of tossing. Lettuce first, (Any lettuce but iceberg.) Sliced yellow and red tomatoes, sliced cucumbers next, a few floret radishes, and some crumbled bleu chesse or feta.

Shrimp: arrange on skewers, grill, basting with butter/olive oil.

Lava cake: serve on your best china, a coulee of raspberry on the plate, sprinkle with confectioners sugar, and a few fresh raspberries.

What can i do to avoid this? I have a septic system – does this make a difference?

It could be that your dishwasher doesn’t final rinse the dishes enough. I have this problem with my machine too. In recent years manufacturers had to come up with ways to get machines to use less water and they went overboard with some of them.

I just do an extra rinse and hold after the cycle is complete and I always use the Sani-Rinse option now. Also you can try adding baking soda or lemon juice to the detergent you use in the dispenser. Let me know if this works

Also your filter might need to be cleaned. Some automatic dishwashers don’t have self cleaning filters.

More tips: Never run the dishwasher when you are using other appliances that use water (lawn sprinklers, constant toilet flushing, clothes washer, etc.. ) If you are washing dishes by hand at the same time the dishwasher is on, don’t use water while the machine fills

I need some examples of dishes and drinks I could make.

I suppose lots of steamed veg and steamed fish. Steamed food in general is good as it keeps in all the nutrients. Prob salad would be ok as a side dish but would fill them up enough. They need food that will sustain and support them. Fish is great for the brain! Go and look it up on Google. Good old Google! drinks…. Obviously nothing fizzy and prob lay off concerntrated fruit juice as very sugary. Maybe Fresh OJ etc? good luck xxx
